Hello!

My voice classes site, social networking and publicity are all under development.  Toward the summer end of 2014 I'll be launching my new look.  In the meantime I will be offering workshops and solo voice sessions in my Grey Lynn studio.  Feel free to email or text me, to enquire about these.

Yes!  I am offering a workshop this Saturday, starting at 10 o'clock, and finishing at 1.

So if you've texted or emailed me with your name, email address, and ideally VOICE in the subject line, then you can expect a response from me within half a day, with information about the venue.

A lot of the information on this blog still applies, but this is an introductory workshop.

There's no pressure to 'perform', it's all about working into the voice with easeful exploration.

Sometimes we work on the floor or on a chair as well as standing.  Again, there's no pressure to persist in a certain way.

This work is very much about finding the best comfortable way to explore your voice.

I look forward to meeting you.  See you on Saturday.

Any queries?  Just text or email.

Spring

special note today's class is in the Garden room!

A few well, years ago, a friend and I talked about having to live life 'on life's terms'.  As much as we strive towards ideals there are other things that come up and challenge us on our way.

Tell you what there's nothing like google to remind us we're not alone in having these epiphanies!  On life's terms is an addiction recovery program, a song, someone else's blog, and a multitude of other things.

Count to ten...  take a deep breath...    steady...  these things people say universally when you come up against a challenge in life.    There is a value in taking things slowly, and surely, and as a reprieve for a society that is addicted to speed we do need to learn to slow down.  But who is going to slow down first?  Like a crowd collecting their baggage at a train station everyone wants to jostle closer and closer so nobody can see the baggage at all! Funny isn't it.

Let me admit right here, that I find slow very tricky.  I feel a mounting pressure to go fast in order to achieve the things I need to achieve and I'm not in anyway a perfect example of slow calm and achievement.. I am a scholar of these things, with a tendency to drink a bit much coffee and take on too many projects and sometimes I get a bit strung out.  Well what can I say I'm honest!

Counting to ten, is a great strategy it distracts the mind and calms the heart makes you oxygenate and can steer you away from the incident that you need to steer away from.  If you've ever left a situation thinking "I shouldn't have said that I shouldn't have said that", or "I should've said that I should've said that!" Then you know what I mean.

Part of a gradual process of forming new patterns around voice and stress is a layering of awareness of voice body and language..   so while the first time you shout, the next time you bite your tongue, the next time you count to ten, the time after that you count and relax, the time after that you relax and listen, and the time after that you listen and respond well.

This is a simplified explanation, obviously some situations require that you leave them altogether and some patterns can take us years to 'listen to' in ourselves.  But the beginning - "take a deep breath" is the key.  Shifting your focus is the hard part and the powerful part and gradually without having to think about it we can use these tools to repeat the new pattern.

If you can develop a 'body memory' of that shift in focus then it will establish a strong support for the intuitive change.

It's officially spring now, so it's a time to wake the body up as it gets warmer, and a time of rejuvenation and a focus on the new.  So whether you come along to today's class or another one, take a deep breath, count to ten, and start again. . .

Voice on track... philosophy and keeping warm!

thought for the fortnight
Our parent's voices become part of us in the early stages of our development. In the womb the unborn child responds to the mum's voice.  As children, mum's warning tones, & soothing tones are hardwired into our very being.  How much of this tonal vocal patterning stays with us, and is responsible for how we relate to others voices now? and how we use our own?   While being real, and present we want to raise our awareness of voice habits and gradually forge a path of strengthened voice use. Whether our voices are strong or soft we can create a new habit of listening to our voices.

Hello,
Welcome to the easyvoice voicework and mumvoice drop-in classes, or welcome back if you've been following this page as it's been developing.

I'm so pleased that the word has been getting around about these classes.

Yes I can see how it has been a bit confusing.  To clarify:   The classes are $10  for an hour long session, and the first class is koha or about $5 or a couple of coins.

No you don't need to have a baby to come to the mumvoice class.

The classes happen fortnightly, and each second class babies are welcome! So in theory if you're a mum, each month you can bring bub with you.  Check the timetable for the dates.

Tomorrow's session is a mumvoice session, but there may or may not be baby's in the class, that's fine. It's still a mumvoice class with an emphasis on a different aspect of voice.    The mumvoice concept is about nurture, channeling energy, teaching and leading, and listening, it's not only about babies, but it stems from that place just as voice does.

It's not a strenuous class but still worth wearing comfy clothes.

At the moment it's all about the women, but guys, there will be a class coming up open to everyone.  Watch this space!

I'm getting back on track myself, now that my very busy midwinter has given way to the more even keel of a (very ) early spring!

Can we call it spring yet?
